Born in Murton in 1909, he served with the 2nd Battalion DLI on the North West Frontier of India in 1930 and in France in 1940, as part of the British Expeditionary Force.
A Prison Officer at Kirkham, near Preston, after the war, he was awarded the Imperial Service Medal in August 1965. James McRoy died in 1991at Blackpool, aged 82.
